Do you really need three Kindles? The commercial below tells us that we do.

I absolutlely have to have Kindle 3G with keyboard because I need a fast way to call up words from my Spanish dictionary. Then there’s the smaller and cheaper version of Kindle that is ideal for travellers who want to save an inch or two of space and carry it in the back pocket (always being careful not to sit down). And of course then there’s the tablet style Kindle Fire which does all the things a tablet can do without the hefty price tag and hefty weight.

So I guess it makes sense. Three Kindles are still cheaper than one iPad and a lot more compact individually.

Kindle is my favourite because I’m a Kindle author and I appreciate the open access Kindle gives to authors, basically allowing anyone to upload stories, novels, how to books and the rest without restriction. Last time I looked Apple was not so liberal with their publishing. And Apple have also upset Seth Godin by not allowing his latest manifesto to be published as an iBook because it contains links to other books as resources, specifically: multiple links to Amazon stores.

Kindle in the News

From Seth Godin:

I just found out that Apple is rejecting my new manifesto Stop Stealing Dreams and won’t carry it in their store because inside the manifesto are links to buy the books I mention in the bibliography.

Who Decides What Gets Sold in Bookstores?

Not fair. But then what is?

You can get your free copy of Seth’s manifesto here.

What do you do if you don’t have ten thousand subscribers?

Answer: Act as if you do.

I remember a story about a woman who went to the Rabbi with a problem.

Rabbi, she said, I no longer believe in the Word. I’ve lost my faith. Life has no meaning. What should I do?

Well daughter, said the Rabbi. All is not lost.  If you have no faith there is only one thing you can do.

But what is that? The woman asked.

If you have no faith, said the Rabbi, of course, you must act as if you do.

The woman went away and very soon found that her faith returned, simply because she was living her life as if she believed.

So what’s the message here?

If you have no subscribers, or very few, you need to act as if you have thousands. This way you won’t lose hope, or worse, lose faith in your ability to succeed.

I recently read a post by Ben Settle who had been asked a similar question:

Is it worth emailing regularly to a very small list of subscribers?

His answer was most definitely yes.

Why, because each email you send out becomes a post in its own right and your content grows every time you send to your list. Pretty soon you’ll have a great swag of original content that will propel your site through the Google rankings and earn you the street cred you need to get noticed.

That’s when you really start to build your subscription list.
